Certificate III in Hospitality

The Certificate III in Hospitality is for individuals working in the Hospitality industry who work in the front of house or back of house sectors. This qualification covers the knowledge and skills to safely work with food, communicate and serve customers showing social and cultural sensitivity and perform sector specific tasks.

Eligible apprentices and trainees that meet the Queensland state funding requirements will be charged a set fee per nominal hour. These fees are calculated at a regulated rate of $1.60 per nominal hour. Concession rates may apply for students under 25 or who hold a current Health Care Card or who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

Non-funded apprentices and trainees will be charged a fee for service cost. These will be confirmed prior to the commencement of training.
Information regarding costs will be outlined on the agreed training plan, which will be provided to the employer and apprentice or trainee at time of induction.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

This qualification covers the knowledge and skills needed to safely work with food, including using hygienic practices and participating in safe food and safe food handling practices. Communicate with and provide service to customers and respond to and identify solutions in relation to customer complaints. Be socially aware when communicating with customers and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and address cross-cultural misunderstandings. For individuals working in the kitchen / back of house, this qualification will assist in gaining the skills to prepare and present appetisers and salads, simple dishes and sandwiches. Select correct packaging materials and package and label foods in line with specific foods, storage and transport requirements. For individuals working in a front of house position, prepare and serve non-alcoholic beverages, espresso coffee and sandwiches. Provide accurate information and advice on different menu options and assist customers with menu selections according to dietary requirements, taste and price preferences. Possible Employment Pathways:

Units of Competency

To be awarded this qualification, competency must be achieved in 15 units of competency:

  • Six (6) core units of competency
  • Nine (9) elective units

Access to a computer/laptop and internet, a video and audio recording device (e.g. smart phone or web cam) and current email address.
