Certificate III in engineering – mechanical trade

The Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade provides the knowledge and skills required of an engineering tradesperson fabricating in the sheet metal, engineering or manufacturing industries. 

Engineering Apprentice machining

The Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade is a qualification completed through an apprenticeship offering two different options, fitting or fitting and machining.   Interpret technical drawings, perform engineering measurements using appropriate device or equipment and safely use hand and power tools.  Perform routine manual metal arc, gas tungsten arc and gas metal arc welding.  Check, identify and repair or replace faulty pneumatic and hydraulic system components.  Perform precision fitting, levelling and alignment of engineering components.  Identify job requirements, select materials and tools, perform machining and check components for compliance with specifications.   Fitting Work safely with industrial chemicals and materials.  Undertake maintenance checks, diagnose faults and repair mechanical drives and transmission assemblies.   Fitting and Machining   Determine and follow safety and job requirements when performing lathe and milling operations.    Possible Employment Pathways for Fitting:

Eligible apprentices and trainees that meet the Queensland state funding requirements will be charged a set fee per nominal hour. These fees are calculated at a regulated rate of $1.60 per nominal hour. Non-funded training will be charged a fee for service cost. These costs will be confirmed prior to the commencement of training. Please enquire for further information regarding FFS or RPL costs.

Units of Competency

To be awarded the MEM30219 Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade, units of competency to the value of 96 points must be achieved

Fitting 

  • Twelve (12) core units of competency 
  • Nineteen (19) elective units 

Fitting and Machining 

  • Twelve (12) core units of competency 
  • Eighteen (18) elective units 

Pre-requisite 

There are no pre-requisites for entry into this qualification.

Access to a computer/laptop and internet, a video and audio recording device (e.g. smart phone or web cam) and current email address.
