The Certificate III in Plumbing covers the knowledge and skills to assemble, install and maintain water services, sanitary plumbing and drainage, and gas, roofing and mechanical services in residential, industrial and commercial workplaces.

The Certificate III in Plumbing is a qualification completed through an apprenticeship covering the installation of drainage, gas and roofing systems. Install drainage and sanitary drainage systems. Install and test gas pressure control equipment, piping systems and appliances. Safely provide plumbing services including locating and clearing blockages, installing trench support, and weld, fabricate and install pipework. Work safely on a roof while installing components and drainage systems and piping for the collection of roof water. General Plumbing – with Gas units Identify installation requirements, install and test gas sub-meters and LPG systems in caravans, mobile homes, mobile workplaces and marine craft. Identify maintenance requirements and conduct maintenance on Type A gas appliances, including those operating on natural gas (NG) or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). General Plumbing – Roofing Select, measure, cut, and fix, fasten or install roof battens, roof sheets and wall cladding. Draw fabrication patterns, calculate curve dimensions and sheet lengths, and select roofing materials to install a curved roof on a roof structure. Possible Employment Pathways for General Plumbing:

QLD Interim Gas Work Licence (for students who completed ‘General Plumbing – with Gas units’) After completion of this CPC32420 Certificate III in Plumbing (General Plumber) qualification with additional Gas units, through an Apprenticeship, individuals can apply for an interim gas work licence which may be issued to applicants applying through Resources Safety & Health Queensland, that was completed in the last 12 months. Eligible apprentices and trainees that meet the Queensland state funding requirements will be charged a set fee per nominal hour. These fees are calculated at a regulated rate of $1.60 per nominal hour. Concession rates may apply for students under 25 or who hold a current Health Care Card or who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

Non-funded training will be charged a fee for service cost. These costs will be confirmed prior to the commencement of training. Please enquire for further information regarding FFS or RPL costs.

  • Forty-three (43) core units of competency
  • Fifteen (15) elective units

General Plumbing – with Gas units

  • Forty-three (43) core units of competency
  • Sixteen (16) elective units (15 Elective Units of Competency plus 1 addition Unit of Competency delivered to comply with QLD Gas licencing requirements | Interim Gas Work Licence QLD)

General Plumbing – Roofing

  • Forty-three (43) core units of competency
  • Nineteen (19) elective units

Pre-requisite

White Card

To work on construction sites, the following Unit is a pre-requisite for the qualification:

  • CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

Access to a computer/laptop and internet, a video and recording device (e.g. smart phone or web cam) and current email address.
