This nationally recognised short course equips you with the practical knowledge and hands-on experience to operate Elevating Work Platforms (EWPs) safely and effectively across various worksites. Designed for workers in operational roles, the training ensures compliance with safety regulations and prepares you for real-world challenges in high-risk industries.
What You’ll Learn:
- Access, interpret and apply EWP documentation to ensure compliance
- Read, clarify and confirm work requirements
- Select and wear appropriate PPE for all work activities
- Identify, inspect and prepare tools and equipment for safe use
- Perform pre-start and post-start equipment checks
- Coordinate tasks with team members before and during operations
- Identify and manage risks, hazards, and environmental concerns
- Understand and apply emergency procedures for fire, accidents, and other incidents
- Stabilise the EWP and safely position tools and equipment
- Use approved safety devices and maintain site safety
- Monitor systems and respond to alarms and emergencies
- Shut down equipment and complete tasks according to the work plan
- Conduct inspections, fault finding, and minor maintenance
- Perform routine servicing, lubrication, and housekeeping
- Maintain accurate written records and documentation
- Clean and clear the work area, and manage materials responsibly
- Check, clean, and store plant, tools, and equipment properly

Entry requirements
All students must be literate in the English Language (no interpreters allowed).
Due to the physical performance requirements of this unit, all students are to have a reasonable level of mental and physical fitness.
People with back, leg, arm or joint injuries may find it difficult to climb / access the practical area and perform activities at height. (Please note that students must be physically capable of wearing a harness and climbing for significant periods of time).
As part of the enrolment process, you will need to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and Digital Literacy indicator Assessment. This assessment is used for reviewing your suitability for this course.

Course Outcome
Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Australian Trade Training College (RTO 31399)
