VET in Schools

Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) is for senior school students wanting to begin a trade career while still in high school.

Gain practical experience, increase your employment prospects and get ahead of the crowd – all before graduation.

Plus as a VETiS student, you can earn points towards your Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and, upon completion, you’ll walk away with a Nationally Recognised Qualification, ready to dive into a job as an apprentice.

VETiS Funding and Eligibility​

Apprenticeships & Traineeships_ - banner inner-min

You may be able to receive Government funding through the VETiS program.

Eligible students can enrol and have their qualification funded through the VET Investment budget offered by the Queensland Government.

To meet eligibility requirements, you must be:

  • Over 15 years of age
  • In year 10, 11 or 12 at a Queensland school
  • An Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant) or hold temporary resident status with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency
  • A permanent Queensland resident
  • Not enrolled in or previously completed another qualification funded by VETiS through the VET Investment program

A list of visa sub-classes for use as a reference for eligibility is available for download.

Your school must provide us with a supportive letter outlining your eligibility to receive VETiS funding. Our team can provide assistance with this.

Automotive

Automotive qualifications offer you hands-on skills and training in an evolving a growing yet changing industry both in Australia and overseas.

Learning about troubleshooting/ diagnosing processes when inspecting and testing electrical, mechanical systems, engines and their drive systems, carrying out service operations on both petrol and diesel vehicles/ machinery and other core skills that can lead to working on light and heavy vehicles, being a spare parts interpreter or an auto-electrician.

Pursue a career in the automotive industry if you’re interested in cars, trucks, agricultural equipment, possess good work technical skills, and work well with your hands!

Electrotechnology

Electrotechnology includes the design, maintenance, installation and repair for all electrical and electronic equipment.

The technology stretches across many sectors including mining, manufacturing, ICT and communications, construction, renewables, domestic and commercial refrigeration and air-conditioning.

The Electrical Services industry (a subsector within Electrotechnology) involves electrical wiring or fittings in buildings and other construction projects, and repair and maintenance of existing electrical equipment and fixtures.

Engineering

Become qualified in an engineering trade specialising in a mechanical or fabrication career.

You will gain practical and technical skills required for a manufacturing function, creating potential career opportunities across the resources and mining industries.

Plumbing

As a key occupation, plumbing is one of the top three occupations in the construction industry with both general and specialised plumbers in demand.

Plumbers perform a full range of plumbing services from skills in installing pipe work, testing and maintaining pipes, fixtures, gas regulators, installing pumps, gas appliances, water tanks, water heaters and water heating systems.

Plumbers with different specialisations are areas of particularly high demand.

Hospitality and Cookery

Hospitality and Cookery qualifications align learners to the standards expected in the environment of restaurants, hotels, clubs and accommodation.

Learners will gain the knowledge and practical skills to ensure smooth running of establishments that can include catering operations, kitchen operations, and commercial cookery.

What is a Card Verification Number (CVN)?

This is a 3 or 4 digit code that provides extra security for online payments. For Visa, Mastercard and Diners, this is a 3 digit number usually printed on the back of the signature panel. For Amex, this is the 4 digit number on the front of the card above the embossed card number.
