11054NAT Certificate II in Plumbing Services

The course will prepare and train students in entry-level skills of the Plumbing trade, in preparation for a full time apprenticeship.

The intended vocational and educational outcomes of the course are:

  • Understanding of the plumbing industry and its licensing levels and requirements
  • Working knowledge of WHS/OHS Regulations and requirements
  • Ability to work safely in construction environments
  • Communicate effectively
  • Provide basic first aid
  • Use oxy-acetylene welding equipment safely and effectively
  • Safely handle and store plumbing materials
  • Operate levelling equipment
  • Erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding
  • Cut and join sheet metal
  • Work safely on roofs and heights
  • Use plumbing hand and power tools
  • Fabricate pressure pipework

Depending on chosen electives, students may also:

  • Prepare simple drawings
  • Read plans and calculate quantities
  • Carry out simple concreting and rendering
  • Cut mild steel using oxy-acetylene equipment

This course is only offered through a VET in Schools arrangement.

  • CPCPCM2055 Work safely on roofs
  • CPCPCM2046 Use plumbing hand and power tools
  • CPCPCM3023 Fabricate and install non-ferrous pressure piping
  • ASBAWA201 Practice asbestos awareness in the construction industry

Whilst there are no licence and regulatory outcomes for this course please visit Queensland building and construction commissions website to find out more information on how to obtain your Queensland Plumbing Licence.

In addition to completing qualification and unit requirements, students must complete a minimum of 220 Hours of Work Placement within the Plumbing Industry.                                                                                                                                                                                                Work Placement enables students to apply and develop their newly learnt skills and knowledge in a real work setting. Students will be supervised by their trainers and host employer, and will be provided with a Work Placement Training Logbook to track their progress.                                                                                                                    Students are encouraged to seek their own Work Placement within a local plumbing business.

Classroom based, 1 day a week (delivered in school term blocks) Workplacement 80 hours
