Students Will Learn To:

• Identify and Inspect: Basic mechanical and electrical components of light vehicles.
• Routine Maintenance: Carry out maintenance and servicing under supervision.
• Tool Usage: Utilize a range of hand and power tools commonly found in automotive workshops.
• Basic Repairs: Perform repairs and remove and replace vehicle components.
• Safety Procedures: Follow workplace health and safety protocols, including hazard identification and safe work practices.
• Effective Communication: Communicate with team members and adhere to workshop instructions and procedures.

This course is ideal for individuals keen on starting a career in the automotive sector, providing entry-level skills that support progression into further training or apprenticeship.

According to the Australian Government’s Job Outlook service, demand for qualified mechanics has grown strongly over the past five years, with employers finding it challenging to fill vacancies. Job openings are expected to remain steady over the next five years.

Blended Option: Learning & Theory assessment online and practical face to face training.

As part of the enrolment process, you will need to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and Digital Literacy indicator Assessment. This assessment is used for reviewing your suitability for this course.

The program provides training to help individuals find a job and supports those already employed to move into more skilled roles or full-time employment, including after completing an apprenticeship or traineeship. Career Start offers either a general training pathway or employment-based apprenticeship or traineeship pathway.

Students who are deemed competent in all units of competency will receive a Qualification and Students who are deemed competent in some units of competency only within this course will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Qualification or Statement is issued by Australian Trade Training College (RTO 31399)

Where a student has a disability or learning difficulty, assessors will apply Australian Trade Training College reasonable adjustment to ensure that the student is not presented with artificial barriers to progress in the course.

Reasonable adjustments may include the use of adaptive technology, educational support, verbal assessment, etc.

We will provide support to each student’s individual needs, providing additional educational and wellness support required for the student to meet the requirements of their training course.
