The Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology is for those wanting to further their skills and knowledge in diagnosing and repairing vehicle electrical and electronic systems and components through an apprenticeship.

This qualification will assist you in gaining the knowledge and skills to safely inspect, diagnose, service and repair electronic components and systems in vehicles. With the focus on electrical systems, units and components, the qualification includes install and test ancillary electronic systems, remove and replace electrical units and assemblies, and identify cause of faults and carry out repairs in electronic body management systems. Diagnose and repair spark and compression ignition, warning, charging and starting systems. Learn how to use electrical test equipment, identify electrical circuit components and wiring systems, read wiring schematics, and solder, repair and install wiring. Possible Employment Pathways:

To be awarded this qualification, competency must be achieved in 32 units of competency: 

  • Twenty-One (21) core units of competency 
  • Eleven (11) elective units
