Manual handling injuries are among the most common workplace risks—and they’re preventable. This nationally recognised short course is designed to equip you with the practical skills and safety knowledge to move materials confidently and correctly across a wide range of industries.

Whether you’re working in warehousing, logistics, construction, manufacturing, mining, healthcare, or hospitality, this course helps you assess risks, plan movements, and apply safe manual handling techniques that align with current WHS/OHS regulations and Australian industry standards.

What You’ll Learn:

Students will gain hands-on experience in:

• Identifying and assessing manual handling risks
• Planning load movements using appropriate equipment and techniques
• Safely lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, and pulling loads

Some units of competency within this training program may involve physical activities, such as heavy lifting, standing for extended periods, or operating machinery, which may present challenges for individuals with physical limitations.

Students are encouraged to discuss any physical limitations or specific needs with our support team prior to enrolment so that reasonable adjustments can be considered to support their participation in the training program while maintaining the integrity of assessment outcomes.

As part of the enrolment process, you will need to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and Digital Literacy indicator Assessment. This assessment is used for reviewing your suitability for this course.

• Enclosed footwear (steel cap preferred)
• Long pants and long sleeve shirt
• Hard Hat
• Safety glasses

If students do not have a Hard Hat or Safety glasses: ATTC will provide for use if necessary.

Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Australian Trade Training College (RTO 31399)

Warehouse Assistant: Move and store goods safely using correct manual handling techniques.

Freight Handler: Load and unload freight while managing manual handling risks.

Construction Labourer: Shift building materials on-site using safe lifting practices.

Production Worker: Relocate raw materials or finished goods in a factory setting.

Logistics Support Officer: Support operations by safely handling packages and stock.

Where a student has a disability or learning difficulty, assessors will apply Australian Trade Training College reasonable adjustment to ensure that the student is not presented with artificial barriers to progress in the course. Reasonable adjustments may include the use of adaptive technology, educational support, verbal assessment, etc.

We will provide support to each student’s individual needs, providing additional educational and wellness support required for the student to meet the requirements of their training course.
