This nationally recognised unit provides the foundational skills and knowledge required to safely perform basic scaffolding operations in construction and related industries. Whether you’re starting out or expanding your qualifications, this course prepares you to work confidently with scaffolding systems in compliance with Australian WHS regulations and industry standards for working at heights.

Through a blend of theoretical instruction and hands-on training, participants will learn to plan, erect, alter, and dismantle scaffolding structures while managing risks and maintaining site safety.

  • Understand licensing and legislative responsibilities for scaffolding work
  • Plan and prepare for tasks by assessing the work area and identifying hazards
  • Select, inspect, and maintain scaffolding components and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Safely erect, alter, and dismantle modular scaffolding systems, including gin wheels, cantilevered hoists, safety nets, and static lines
  • Apply risk control measures to ensure structural integrity and prevent incidents
  • Conduct inspections, complete handover certificates, and follow correct procedures for task completion and equipment storage

Licensed outcome

This unit of competency training does not result in a HRW Licence for participants. After successful completion of the basic scaffolding training, participants need to apply for their licence within 60 days with WHSQ (WorkSafeQLD).

Entry requirements

Students must be aged 18.

All students must be literate in the English Language (no interpreters allowed).

Some activities within this training program may involve physical activities, such as heavy lifting, standing for extended periods, or operating machinery, which may present challenges for individuals with physical limitations.

Students are encouraged to discuss any physical limitations or specific needs with our support team prior to enrolment so that reasonable adjustments can be considered to support their participation in the training program while maintaining the integrity of assessment outcomes.

As part of the enrolment process, you will need to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and Digital Literacy indicator Assessment. This assessment is used for reviewing your suitability for this course.

Course Outcome

Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Australian Trade Training College (RTO 31399)
