- Identify applicable legal structures and interpret related legislative and regulatory obligations.
- Develop and implement procedures to ensure compliance with business laws, licensing, and record-keeping requirements.
- Negotiate, draft, and complete contractual agreements that protect business interests.
- Analyse internal and external business risks and implement risk treatment strategies.
- Monitor systems for compliance, taking corrective action where required.
This unit is ideal for individuals planning to start or grow a small business, or those involved in operations and compliance. It supports sound decision-making in the legal and risk environment of business ventures and aligns with Australian business laws, WHS responsibilities, and industry standards.
This course is designed for:
- Qualified tradespersons (newly graduated apprentices) who are applying to be registered as a licensed subcontractor, trade contractor, or nominee supervisor with the QBCC.
- Electricians applying for an electrical contractor’s licence from the Electrical Safety Office (ESO).
- Anyone seeking to become a Qualified Business Person (QBP).

Licensed outcome
While there are no prerequisites for completion of this unit, the QBCC has additional trade and experience requirements for attaining the Trade Contractors licence for your trade, so please visit the QBCC website: http://www.qbcc.qld.gov.au to check on all requirements before enrolling.
Entry requirements
As part of the enrolment process, you will need to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and Digital Literacy indicator Assessment. This assessment is used for reviewing your suitability for this course.

What resources do I need?
- Access to a computer (with Adobe Reader®, Microsoft Office® and a web browser, preferably Google Chrome)
- Access to the internet
- A video and audio recording device such as a ‘smart phone’ or web cam. (Note: Assessments require students to audio/visual record and submit to the assessor)
Course Outcome
Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Australian Trade Training College (RTO 31399)

Where a student has a disability or learning difficulty, assessors will apply Australian Trade Training College reasonable adjustment to ensure that the student is not presented with artificial barriers to progress in the course.
Reasonable adjustments may include the use of adaptive technology, educational support, verbal assessment, etc.
We will provide support to each student’s individual needs, providing additional educational and wellness support required for the student to meet the requirements of their training course.
