The MEM30219 Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitting & Machining) is a comprehensive qualification designed to be completed through an apprenticeship.

Throughout this program, you will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in various engineering roles, such as Fitter Machinist, Fitter and Turner, Mechanical Fitter or Maintenance technician. Key areas of focus include:

  • Technical Drawings and Measurements: Learn to interpret technical drawings and perform precise engineering measurements using appropriate devices and equipment.
  • Tool Usage: Develop proficiency in the safe use of hand and power tools, essential for any engineering task.
  • Welding Techniques: Gain hands-on experience in routine manual metal arc, gas tungsten arc, and gas metal arc welding.
  • Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems: Learn to check, identify, and repair or replace faulty components in pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Precision Fitting and Alignment: Master the skills of precision fitting, levelling, and alignment of engineering components to ensure optimal performance.
  • Machining Operations: Identify job requirements, select suitable materials and tools, perform machining tasks, and check components for compliance with specifications.
  • Lathe and Milling Operations: Understand and follow safety and job requirements when performing lathe and milling operations.

To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:

Units of competency to the value of 96 points must be achieved, as outlined below:

  • core units of competency listed below (totalling 33 points)
  • elective units of competency to a minimum value of 40 points from Group C electives as described below
  • elective units of competency to a maximum value of 23 points from Group D to bring the total value to 96 points.

As part of the enrolment process, you will need to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and Digital Literacy indicator Assessment. This assessment is used for reviewing your suitability for this course.

Career Start Program

The Career Start Program provides individuals with the skills and support to start their career. The program provides training to help individuals find a job and supports those already employed to move into more skilled roles or full-time employment, including after completing an apprenticeship or traineeship. Career Start offers either a general training pathway or employment-based apprenticeship or traineeship pathway.

Course Outcome

Students who are deemed competent in all units of competency will receive a Qualification and Students who are deemed competent in some units of competency only within this course will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Qualification or Statement is issued by Australian Trade Training College (RTO 31399)
