This qualification was designed specifically for Senior school students in years 11 and 12 learning work-ready skills and gaining the basic skills needed to work as a salon assistant.

This course will provide the student cohort with the basic skills employers are looking for to establish a career as a salon assistant.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals wishing to pursue a career as a salon assistant in a hairdressing environment, providing a defined and limited range of basic skills and knowledge used to provide clients with services including shampoo and basin services, drying hair, braiding, and basic colour application and removal.

With this qualification, learners will have a better understanding of the industry and be well situated to enhance their skills through further study or an apprenticeship in hairdressing.

Requirements for completion of this qualification

To be awarded this qualification, competency must be achieved in 12 units of competency made up of 8 core units of competency and 4 elective units.
