The Basic Open Cabler Registration Skill Set is for new or existing workers in the telecommunications industry who wish to be employed as open registered cablers (Telecommunication Technician) in accordance with ACMA requirements.

The Basic Open Cabler Registration Skill Set is set to address the skills and knowledge required to install, maintain and modify telecommunications customer cabling in domestic and commercial premises in accordance with Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) requirements for ‘Open’ Registration. The units from this skill set contribute to the ACMA training required for individuals to apply for an Open Cabling Registration Licence with a registrar of their own choosing.Possible Employment Pathways:
  • Telecommunications cabler to work on the installation and maintenance of telephone, data, security and fire protection cabling.

Requirements for completion of this qualification

Units of Competency

To be awarded this skill set, competency must be achieved in 4 units of competency:

  • Four (4) units
  • ICTCBL247 Install, maintain and modify customer premises communications cabling: ACMA Open Rule
  • ICTTEN208 Use electrical skills when working with telecommunications networks
  • ICTTEN202 Use hand and power tools
  • ICTWHS204 Follow work health and safety and environmental policy and procedures

Pre-requisite

There are no entry requirements for this skill set, however students with a colour vision deficiency should consult their trainers as some units may not be suitable.
To be eligible to obtain an Open Cabler Registration Licence, applicants are required to complete 360 industry based cabling hours and apply via an ACMA approved registrar. For more information, please visit the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) website.
